Job Description:
The librarian at IIT Kharagpur will be responsible for managing the library’s resources and services, developing and implementing policies, and overseeing the library staff. The librarian will also collaborate with faculty and students to provide research support, facilitate information literacy instruction, and promote the use of the library’s collections.
The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role in a research library. The candidate should have a thorough understanding of library management principles, experience in budgeting and resource allocation, and knowledge of current and emerging trends in library technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of Library Resources: The librarian will oversee the acquisition, cataloging, processing, and maintenance of the library’s resources, including books, journals, databases, and electronic resources.
Policy Development and Implementation: The librarian will work with the library staff and the institute’s administration to develop and implement library policies that align with the institute’s academic and research goals.
Research Support: The librarian will collaborate with faculty and students to provide research support services, including literature searches, citation management, and research data management.
Information Literacy Instruction: The librarian will design and deliver information literacy instruction to help students develop the skills needed to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.
Outreach and Promotion: The librarian will promote the library’s resources and services through outreach activities, such as orientation sessions, workshops, and social media campaigns.

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science.
Or
- Postgraduate, holding First Class in both BLIS (Bachelor of Library and Information Science) and MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role in a research library.
- Knowledge of library management principles, including budgeting and resource allocation.
- Understanding of current and emerging trends in library technology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary Amount:
Rs. 20,000/- (Rupees twenty thousand only) per month. An undertaking will be taken from the trainees at the time of joining to the effect that the entire stipend amount will be refunded back if the trainee wants to leave before the completion of the training period along with other terms and conditions.
Period of training: 12 months
